Which is your Nvidia card (model).
maybe hardware support has been dropped for your card.

you can get this info from
Code: Select all
inxi -G

this shows that there is an issue with the Nvidia kernel module, a conflict is preventing it from loading.
unfortunately, I have no Nvidia hardware, so I am unable to assist further.

Just a guess #1, go back to
Code: Select all
drakx11
and choose either the free *nouveau* driver or the Nvidia driver for your graphics. ie, the one other than the one that you have currently chosen.
just a guess #2:
If you know how to edit the grub boot line (press 'e' before the timer runs out and the boot starts), remove *splash quiet* and add *nomodeset*. then *ctrl+x* to start boot

There are like 200 graphics drivers on that list. I don't know what the "free *nouveau* driver" is. And trying them all one by one would be death, so that in the end none of them work.

I don't know how to edit GRUB. If you explain it to me, I can try.

Free driver should be called nouveau or NV

And, in the event that this tragedy is solved one day, could I select the correct driver for my Nvidia within the graphical environment? I would not be interested in wasting its graphic capabilities because it is an unsupported graphics card.

Yes you can. Run Mangeia Control Center. There's module for configuring your graphics.

I have entered drakx11 and selected the "nouveau" graphics card, after which I have experienced a slight progress, since at the moment I have appeared inside KDE Plasma.

But afterwards, the progress has not been so significant, since, after testing that various programs were working correctly (browser, libreoffice...) I tried to restart, and I have not been able to log in again.

The system starts, enters the login screen in Plasma and, when I enter my password, the screen goes black. I can move my mouse pointer around the screen, but there is no way to get out of that black screen. Pressing ctrl+alt+delete does not fix the problem.

It seems that everything was a mirage.

at the login screen, there are 3 windows.

user:

password:

session:
Plasma (X11) v ( <- this is a *down* arrow)

change to:

session:
IceWM Session v ( <- this is a *down* arrow)

does this give you a *working* desktop environment?

I really think you would be better off backing up and doing a clean install. Just my 2¢

Digging through your old threads, it looks again like the same problem which you already had with MGA7. No space on your HDD and not all necessary packages installed. It seems that you are missing the kernel-devel packages and thats why the build of the Nvidia kernel module fails...

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=13456&p=79038#p78820

Your system was already broken under MGA7 (can be seen on your threads), so any attempts to upgrade to MGA8 are doomed for sure...

So Germ's suggestion would be the best. But before that, buy a SSD (500GB-1TB) for less then 50€ and you wont have any disk space problems in the future...

If money is an issue, you can get a 500GB mechanical hard drive from Amazon for $18 US I just bought a Samsung HDD from them.
