[SOLVED] dead.letter file 11Gb in size in root

Postby Myles » Dec 16th, '22, 04:37

Hello once again good people.
The problem - whilst investigating another - what I thought was a problem but turned out not to be - I accessed root in Dolphin and noticed the file "dead.letter" which is 11Gb in size! I searched around online and found out about it holding some sort of messages but I don't know how to access the file to read them, or even clear the entire file to free up that space on root.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

when e.g. msec is configured to send mails for the reports it runs, and no MTA (mail transport agent) is configured, those mails will end up in /dead.letter as they cannot be delivered.
See e.g. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=9985 or maybe https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4890 for some more details.

And maybe https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Dma_Dragonfly_Mail_Agent for a simple MTA, which should be installed by default.

As always, doktor,
Thankyou for those links I'll look them up.
Anyway, once I go through the links and deal with the file successfully I will mark my question Closed.
