I don't get a warning when an update is available

Postby csablak » Nov 22nd, '22, 14:16

I use KDE (Mageia 8), and among the hidden icons on the tray, I see that mgaonline is watching.
If I monitor it when logging in directly, I can see that the orange icon changes to blue after about 5-6 minutes, and it says that the system is up to date.
However, it never warns you when an update is available. And it's not that there are no updates available, because if
at the same time, I issue the urpmi.update command, then I can see how it is.

Check the settings of your system tray.
Small Triangle in the notification area -> Configure system tray -> Entries -> mgaapplet -> shwon when relevant

In the panel tray settings, mgapplet - display if relevant - is set.

Also check your general Notification settings under systemsettings->Personalization->Notifications

These are not the standard settings. Please switch "Felugro"-> "Az ezertizes...." as this is the KDE Plasma standard. This is to try if it is related to your problem...

The applet will only show updates. If you run urpmi --auto-update then you will also see newer versions of packages from all enabled repositories in addition to the updates from updates repositories.

You may want to post the output which you're looking at, which updates urpmi shows.

Then now you have to wait until there is another update, because I ran it last time.
Code: Select all
┌─root:[/home/csablak]
└──$ urpmi.update -a
a(z) "Core Release (distrib1)" adatforrás naprakész
a(z) "Core Updates (distrib3)" adatforrás naprakész
a(z) "Nonfree Release (distrib11)" adatforrás naprakész
a(z) "Nonfree Updates (distrib13)" adatforrás naprakész
a(z) "Tainted Release (distrib21)" adatforrás naprakész
a(z) "Tainted Updates (distrib23)" adatforrás naprakész

┌─root:[/home/csablak]
└──$ urpmi --auto-select

FWIW, there's no need to run urpmi.update -a and then urpmi --auto-select. urpmi --auto-update does both of those at once.

Okay. Thanks. I didn't know this, but maybe this approach is good now, because I just checked this way in the command line, and I see that there is an update available, but I don't see anything about it on the KDE tray.
If I click on the mgapplet, it still just says that the system is up to date. But now I see this:

Code: Select all
# mgaapplet --testing
Ignore the following Glib::Object::Introspection & Gtk3 warnings
Subroutine Gtk3::main redefined at /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/Gtk3.pm line 539.

(mgaapplet:37896): LIBDBUSMENU-GLIB-WARNING **: 22:11:21.977: Unable to get session bus: A kapcsolat le van zárva (The connection closed )
"  testing-x86_64?product=Default&version=8&mgaonline_version=3.31" behozatala megtörtént (importation has taken place)

Do those numbers refer to an IP address? Because that's not what I got from the service provider.

Code: Select all
# urpmi --auto-select

Seem to be warnings about the rpm database.

Does it work after you rebuild it using
Code: Select all
rpmdb --rebuilddb

The system got to the point where I ran the rpmbuild command, which ran without error, later the update warning appeared on the taskbar, but the "install updates" button just displayed the message again, but did nothing else.

Unfortunately, the update still does not work with the mga applet. No notification.
What kind of log is needed?
