Are there third party repos for Mageia to get extra packages

Postby RockBed » Mar 6th, '22, 21:24

I installed Mageia recently, and tried to install some packages,ibus-rime for example. But I found that it's not supported in Mageia Application Database.
In other distros, there are some repos that provide extra free or nonfree packages not supported in official repos(e.g RPM Fusion and COPR for Fedora and AUR for Arch)
Does Mageia community have the same kind of repos? If does, please tell me more.If doesn't,is there any way to install extra packages? Can I directly get .rpm file s from RedHat-based distro repos like RPM Fusion or Fedora Official Repo?
Where to find packages for some unpackaged software?(Flatpak and AppImage is known)

Thank for replying!
But I've already learned basic ways to customize my repos and looking for suggestions of sources of packages.Repacking is a bit dangerous and challenging to install and hard to manage.

There are some in an older thread: viewtopic.php?f=41&t=1985
The only ones from those that I know are still active would be BlogDrake, see e.g. https://ftp.blogdrake.net/GetRepoDrake/ and also from the Greek community: http://mageia-gr.org/rpm/

Apart from that, any Copr project can also build Mageia packages. But I don't know of a useful list of useful & current packages or projects.
You can go through https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs ... ext=Mageia

Regarding ibus-rime, somebody posted how to compile it: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=13658
But I don't see any package request for ibus-rime.

As an alternative, there's also fcitx.

We can also cite a newly active repo from MLO (mageialinux-online.org).
https://www.mageialinux-online.org/foru ... rouvre.php
Flatpak and appimage are working on Mageia. Appimage because such applications have all embedded. Flatpak through Discover or Gnome-software, and packagekit.
Packages built for Fedora or Suse aren't working most of the case.
As Doktor said, Copr can build packages for Mageia. If the package is not yet build for Mageia, it is possible to fork it and try to build for Mageia. This can need some adjustments. You can then declare the repository on your box using DNF instead of urpmi.

Thanks for sharing, I've added those to the other thread - and that repo can also be added conveniently via GetRepoDrake.
