[Done] no efi dual boot login gui after fresh install

Postby JJF » Dec 13th, '19, 10:31

Fresh install Mageia 7 Plasma alongside with windows 10 efi on SSD
System boots directly to Windows 10 without showing the login screen
If I interrupt the boot preocess using the "boot setup" (F12 key in my PC), I can select either boot into Windows, or to boot into Mageia 7.
If I select to boot Mageia, I can proceed and work normaly.
How do I get the boot selection screen??
Tks

When booted into Mageia, what is the output from running (as root)
Code: Select all
efibootmgr -v

I installed and checked again and got:
Code: Select all
efibootmgr -v
EFI variables are not supported on this system

However, without doubt, Windows 10 installed before I installwd Mageia7, was an EFI bootable OS.

My guess is that when you booted the installer (from DVD or USB), you booted in legacy mode, not UEFI mode. If you have the CSM enabled in your BIOS, you usually get the option of both, so you have to be careful which one you pick. You can tell which mode you have booted in from the installer boot menu title - see http://doc.mageia.org/installer/7/en/co ... aller.html

If so, you can probably fix this by rerunning the installer (making sure you have booted in EFI mode) and selecting the option to upgrade your existing system. That should be very quick, as there won't be anything that needs upgrading except the bootloader. I've not actually tested it, but I think if you do that it should install an EFI compatible bootloader.
