Update conflict

Postby tonyhb » Jan 10th, '18, 03:41

Wondering if someone can help with a workaround for this error when attempting to do updates?

3 installation transactions failed

There was a problem during the installation:

file /lib/firmware/intel/dsp_fw_glk.bin from install of kernel-firmware-nonfree-20171220-1.mga6.nonfree.noarch conflicts with file from package iwlwifi-agn-ucode-20170531-1.mga6.nonfree.noarch

kernel-firmware-nonfree < 20171206-1 conflicts with iwlwifi-firmware-20171220-1.mga6.nonfree.noarch

kernel-desktop-4.14.10-1.mga6 is needed by kernel-desktop-latest-4.14.10-1.mga6.x86_64

Thanks

Do you know which mirror you are using? There's been ALOT of mirror sync problems of late, causing all of these 'failed' updates.

Check https://mirrors.mageia.org/status

You may need to simply update again tomorrow?

Thanks.
I have waited a couple of days.
It seems that the packages are already downloaded and it comes to the same conclusion each time it goes to install.
Is there a way to clear these downloaded packages?

Ok, I'm not sure what's going on there.

Can you list the result of :

Code: Select all
urpmq --list-media active --list-url

That'll tell us which mirror and repos you have activated.
Someone with more knowledge than me will come along.

Oh, do you have any software you've installed outside of the mageia repos?

Interesting, I'm on internode mirror (Adelaide SA here) and I'm not having issues.

I don't have those live repo's, not sure if they are meant to be there or not: Someone will come along who knows.

Those rpm's that are conflicting look to be wifi related: Have you added a new network or wifi dongle or something?

They are the default repos from the installation media. See the part above the second screenshot in this wiki page: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Software_man ... nd_updates

xboxboy wrote:Those rpm's that are conflicting look to be wifi related: Have you added a new network or wifi dongle or something?

That's pretty much irrelevant, this is just a packaging error from the error message. This happens when one file is moved around between packages, if that happens then conflicts have to be added between such packages as otherwise such errors pop up.
Although the only occurence for this one I can find is https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22360 and https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22316

@tonyhb: It would probably be helpful to see the full output from

Code: Select all
urpmi --auto-update --test
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

you appear to have doubled up on your on-line media.
if this is so, try removing all on-line media and then adding just one set of new on-line media

or part of the doktors request

Code: Select all
urpmi --auto-update --test

copy and paste the media probe section:
Code: Select all
# urpmi --auto-update --test

medium "Core Updates" is up-to-date

of late there has been lot of "error 404, media not found" with the above AU internode server, which would explain your issue.

I also saw this when updating my old workstation, mga6,
i just removed the conflicting package and the update proceeded OK

ie iwlwifi-agn-ucode-20170531-1.mga6.nonfree.noarch

but its not running wifi so it was no problem.

Thank you for the responses, and apologies for late reply
All is well now.
The output from: urpmi --auto-update --test said all was ok but that there were 33 orphaned files.
I removed them and then the update proceeded without issue, but not sure they were the issue though.
