[SOLVED] Gnome equivalent to KDE input device

Postby rooman » Nov 28th, '17, 22:40

Where can I find the Gnome equivalent to KDE input device app for calibrating joysticks?
I've been searching for days ans it seems that no-one uses Mageia 6 / Gnome with joysticks. If nothing exists then bye-bye Gnome coz I gotta fly with FGFS!
They work and are detected in FGFS but even the FG in-app config module is dead.
Any ideas?

If nothing works I'll get rid of Gnome and reinstall KDE

you should just be able to install the KDE app via MCC(GUI) or urpmi(terminal) into your Gnome DE.

both ways will bring in any required dependencies, so you can keep your usual desktop.

@doktor5000, jstest seems to be aimed at gamepads and will probably not work with more then one device ata time. Proper plane controls can use at least two as the pedals (rudder) are often a separate device.

Well, most gamepads at least have two analog joysticks, a digital pad and quite a lot of analog and digital buttons. I don't see how that's different from a joystick for plane controls, usually those only have more axis and some more analog controls for thrust etc.

Honestly, I was hoping to be able to use the KDE Joystick configuration module or an equivalent https://docs.kde.org/trunk5/en/kde-workspace/kcontrol/joystick/index.html#kcm_joystick
as part of Plasma, is this possible in Gnome?

That should come with the package systemsettings.

the Gnome package system settings application has nothing for joysticks that's my basic problem.

I'm wondering if I should try and install a KDE minimal (keeping Gnome for my wife etc) just for flying with the flight sim. It's possible I think but what do you think is the best way @doktor5000? Or can I install Plasma to work in Gnome so as to have this module?

While I have your competant attention, I'm going to reinstall the Flightgear package but there are so many dependancies that I fear damage if I uninstall everything; happenend once before. There is a parameter to force reinstall with urpmi or dnf I think?

EDIT
in Ubuntu this seems possible to use KDE sytemsettings from Gnome DE, I'm not at home and cannot try, what do you think?

I failed to install KDE systemsettings module on its own so I installed KDE Plasma minimal and it seems okay at first glance.
The joystick config module is present and works, Flightgear picks up the config and seems happy.

I don't know how much RAM is eaten up now but I have more or less the same framerates as before so increased resources usage is minimal.

Thank you very much for your time and suggestions.

If you are curious, take a look at Flightgear, it is not a game, it'a serious simulator (open source) licensed by the FAA for some training.

Yes, there is, for urpmi it's urpmi --replacepkgs --replacefiles packagename to reinstall an installed package. For dnf is just dnf reinstall packagename AFAIR.

Yes, it's possible although I'm not at a Mageia box right now so can't tell the package that contains the joystick configuration kcm module.
