Gangreln, in general it is advised to create separate topics for different issues.
It makes searching in the forum easier for somebody else, who might run into the same problem in future, and chances people are picking up your issue is bigger.

also as a first up, please people post info about your system when posting new questions, it helps us to help you, see the locked thread.

for nouveau

ive tried this several different ways.

but often get stuck in a loop when doing the changes with the booted system.

so boot safe mode and then

Code: Select all
rpm -qa|grep  nouveau

then remove the rpm's that the search above finds with urpme 1 2 3 4

it will also pull off the X11 video7 and ati drivers but you dont need those.

next boot from the install DVD (im assuming you installed with classical installer otherwise none of this may work)

next choose upgrade, and where apropriate select keyboard/region etc.

at the end when its done nothing it will say theres a propriety driver for your graphics card.........

follow it and let it setup your xorg.conf when finished just reboot of disk, and everything should be ok.

the reason this issue happens is because nouveau is bundled onto the system at build time, and then gets picked when the nvidia kernel fails to compile.

and selects the nouveau instead.

hopefully that wont happen to you by doing it this way, but its possible.

if it does you may have to boot in safe mode and run drakconf and select vesa as graphics

until you can find out why/if theres an issue compiling the driver.

hopefully that wont be a problem.

regards peter

ps after the benign upgrade you will have to reselect your media for updates.
