Playonlinux wine 32bit World of Tanks app IE tiny window

Postby dirkme » Aug 24th, '17, 07:18

Dear Mageia-Fans,

first, CONGRATULATION for MAGEIA 6!!!

2nd, I installed playonlinux 586 to get wine32 etc to install World of Tanks.

I had this before with Magaia 5 but there i made the mistake to install PLO x86.

Here is the trouble: while installing essentials to the virtual drive from PLO the Internet Explorer window is tiny and you can not maximize it or click anything, so you can not finish the installation.

Now, I still get wine 64 bit installed (if I want or not) and last time (Mageia 5.1) that was the culprit and I circumvent it with installing PLO 586 now I have installed playonlinux586 (32bit) and still have wine64, I have no idea how to get this error fixed.

Help me ;-)

Cannot really comment on playonlinux, but why not use wine directly as WoT is marked gold? https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... &iId=11544

installing what essentials, and why is IE open for that ?

And please show the output of
Code: Select all
rpm -qa|sort|grep -iE "wine|playonlinux"

PlayonLinux, takes care of fonts direct X and far more when you install a game or program. Important is, that the Internet Explorer window is a tiny thing on your screen, a show stopper. It's a known issue, but it shouldn't happen anymore.

At Mageia 5.1 i coudl just install the 586 package and all was fine, now it doesn't seem to work anymore?

Such a shame, I loved Mageia 5.1 and Mageia 6 seems to be as promising as 5.1 was, however, I need to wait using Mageia 6 until I found a solution for this problem, as i randomly play this rigged game and don't want to reboot into another OS to do so.

Hope the Mageia Team will find a solution for this error soon.

Thanks
Dirk

I don't see any bugreport open for playonlinux. The only one which can happen if you install the wrong wine version might be https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21023
So if you don't report a bug for that, with clear steps to reproduce this nobody from the "Mageia Team" can even take a look at this.
And if this is a playonlinux issue better ask there first, as you don't want to use wine directly. Check https://www.playonlinux.com/de/app-1592 ... Tanks.html
For wine, you would only need to install d3dx9_36 vcrun2008 corefonts msxml3 wininet ie7 via winetricks as per https://worldoftanks.eu/de/content/soft ... rams/1311/

This is a Mageia 6 issue, i have it nowhere else.

Just try for yourself, open PlayOnlinux, search for world of tanks and after a few steps you won't be able to continue the installation anymore.

OK, I removed Mageia 6 (what a shame) until some1 knows something, the way Mageia acts with PlayonLinux shouldn't be.

Post something if you got it vworking, I am more than happy to start again with Mageia 6, had a good time with 5.1

As I wrote, WOT can be installed as mentioned above. I've just tested installation into a separate wine prefix via
Code: Select all
env WINEPREFIX="/home/username/.wine_wot" winetricks d3dx9_36 vcrun2008 corefonts msxml3 wininet ie7
wget https://redirect.wargaming.net/WoT/latest_web_install_eu -O wot_installer.exe
env WINEPREFIX="/home/username/.wine_wot" wine wot_installer.exe

You may have to restart the updater a few times as it crashes often, and you should probably disable seeding of downloaded updates.

Thanks Doctor, I will give this a try, might be next week Tuesday when I got time in the evening.

I am just concerned, PLO installs IE8 because it needs something from it, it also installs XP service pack 3 MS fonts DirectX etc. so I wonder if it will be 3D accelerated and will play OK.
