Hi All,

Recently, it happens to me that the screen on my laptop lose characters in applications. For example, Thunderbird become like this

This happens about once per week (these I my params: mageia 5, KDE 4.14.)

Have somebody encountered this and can help me to get rid of it?

Thank you

Which applications apart from Thunderbird are affected? And does that happen all the time or only after your box has been running for a while ?

not sure it is relevant but I had a similar issue previously.
missing whole words or lines in MCC and firefox, and invalid characters in other applications.

issue was due to driver for the graphics card.

try vesa or nouveau (if using nvidia) driver and see it that corrects the issue.

also possible that you have a failing graphics card.

id agree looks like memory corruption , could be graphics memory,
or it could be the memory that one graphics toolkit has mapped, because several are in play,
the apps you suggest are all gtk, i think as a casual observation.
whereas the others are all qt.
the intermittent might be related to heat, as this is what can push an electronic fault to show its ugly face.

and the fact no one else has reported it, backs that.

id suggest run memcheck from a boot cd, and get the laptop warm and see if it starts failing

(i dont suggest you put the laptop in the oven btw, just leave it running in a warmer than usually place.)
