I had the same problem and I ran strace /usr/lib64/vlc/vlc-cache-gen -f /usr/lib64/vlc/plugins in Konsole as root and it fixed it.

ok. ok.
so i will dl the 160 MOs of valgrind, type in /usr/lib64/vlc/vlc-cache-gen -f /usr/lib64/vlc/plugins and see what happens.

ok: the bugzilla thingy was so useless i was about to pull the trigger, but then decided to try strace instead: i have now a full /usr/lib64/, full as an egg. not bad.
i have now a nice aka47 to sell for those in need.
but remember: try strace before, lads!

I ran this too and it's all fixed:
I have never run strace or did not know what it does.

I had the same problem and I ran strace /usr/lib64/vlc/vlc-cache-gen -f /usr/lib64/vlc/plugins in Konsole as root and it fixed it.
