"Lock session" gone in Mageia 6 rc?

Postby tired » Jun 12th, '17, 07:14

There is a handy checkbox in Mageia 5 Auto login settings (System Settings -> Login Screen -> Convenience tab) which says "Lock session" and it works as expected, locks the session while automatically logging into the desktop. In the Auto login settings of Mageia 6 rc (System Settings -> Startup and Shutdown -> Login Screen -> Advanced tab) there is a checkbox which says "Relogin after quit", which I would expect to do the same. However, it does not do anything I could notice. What should it do or is it just not working? Using 64 bit versions of Mageia.

What login/display manager do you use?

See the upstream report for this: https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/470 and there's also https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=368448
Seems plasma5's systemsettings has not been adapted for that yet, or there's another bug there.

What does your /etc/sddm.conf have for Autologin.Relogin setting?

The relogin setting can be either true or false, in both cases it logs in automatically, but neither causes the expected locked session.

Well your expectation seems off
there is a checkbox which says "Relogin after quit", which I would expect to do the same.

if it's supposed to relogin your session after you quit it, then why should it lock it. Both purposes slightly contradict each other. Either you want an auto-login or you want a locked session, what point is there in having both ?

The main reasons are security and speed. For example, after rebooting, an unlocked session would be a security risk until I would be back at the computer. A locked session is safer and I don't need to wait for the login to complete. This little feature has saved me a lot of time and I think it is sad if it is gone.
