[solved] D-Bus problem

Postby RoyD » Apr 20th, '16, 07:43

Hi All

Several weeks ago I has super blocks problems. doktor5000 help immensely but we could not find the problem. I did a clean KDE Mageia 5 install. The PC has not missed a beat for several weeks until tonight and it started rebooting . I login and did nothing and after 5minutes or so it reboots; along the way after several reboots and pressing F2, I saw a message
so under root

Code: Select all
 [root@localhost roy]# plasma-desktop
plasma-desktop(4441): KUniqueApplication: Cannot find the D-Bus session server:  "/usr/bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally with the following error: No protocol specified
Autolaunch error: X11 initialization failed."
plasma-desktop(4440): KUniqueApplication: Pipe closed unexpectedly.

Any ideas

Thank you Roy

You seem to be trying to start it as root, but in the home directory belonging to roy. It's likely you've ended up with some root owned files in roy's home, which will need to be chown'ed back to roy.

Yes I did have a folder Music that was root in my home dir. Actually I just deleted it. Still did not help. I did notice while I rebooted it would stall at loading the nvida. So I thought maybe my graphics drivers need sorting. Went to MCC, set up graphical server, clicked on my graphic card (nvidia geforce 8100, select my graphic card, click yes to use proprietary, all good. clicked test. Then I get a message ¨An Error occurred (EE) fatal server error; try to change some parameters.¨ I also noticed the graphics on top 20% of the screen was going crazy Pixelating. Any ideas?

I re read what you wrote. /usr/bin/dbus-launch is under root dir. Nothing under Home dir

Where did you get your Nvidia driver? From the Mageia packages? Or from the Nvidia website? If the latter, reinstall the driver and it will probably solve your problem.

As for the rest of it, looks to me like you either have permissions problems in your configuration directories or you have corruption in those directories. I would suggest you restore from backup, if you have one. You also should check your filesystem, and possibly check your hard drive.

I do everything from MCC so my driver is from MCC. Changed hard drives to a brand new one several weeks ago due to problems, We thought it was the hard drive, maybe not. Did a clean install from scratch. My system unit is getting older and I wonder if its the graphics card / motherboard is the problem. Luckily I have several PCs and heavily into backup, so no stress, I don't lose data any more. I think I will need to build a new PC for Mageia soon because its my favourite operating system. I would like to to thank all the helpful friendly people involved with Mageia. Thanks everybody.
