Timeouts when downloading new packages

Postby ScottyK » Apr 16th, '16, 19:52

Greetings!

On a new Mageia 5 system, I'm having trouble getting packages to download from the software management screen. I'll make my selections, and after confirming the dependencies needed, it will start to download the packages. Problem is that it never finishes when I have multiple packages selected.. Sometimes I'll get 25%, maybe 47% on another try, and once even had it as high as 67% before the program times out, and says installation failed. If I go back and uncheck everything I want and just do one package at a time, it works.

Network connection is fine, other programs are happily accessing the internet.

I tried swapping out a network card to use instead of the build in LAN port, but that didn't help. Now I'm going to go get a USB WiFi adapter and see if it still does the behavior over wireless.

Hi ScottyK and welcome to Mageia.

you may like to try a different mirror.

add via MCC => software management => configure media sources for install and update => file => add a specific media mirror =>

I have found the "FR - distrib-coffee " ftp or http very reliable.

It could be a disk space issue.
When it stalls open a terminal and run
Code: Select all
df
and post the output here.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Yesterday I installed a USB wireless and took it off the LAN, and suddenly everything package I wanted downloaded without a problem.

I had suspected something was wrong with my built in LAN port, this seems to confirm it.

If the problem comes back I'll post the output of df like suggested above.
