LXDE menu nearly empty after upgrade to Mageia 5 [solved]

Postby jimg » Aug 7th, '15, 04:30

Hi all,

I just upgraded to Mageia 5 from Mageia 4 using the online upgrade. Prior to the upgrade, in LXDE the menu (the Start menu if this were Another OS) showed all my apps organized as usual. Now after upgrade the menu lists only two items, "Logoout" and "Run". Maybe this is a new feature designed to simplify my life.... ;-)

I know I can edit a file to add menu items, or use a menu editor. But I'd like to have the menu auto-populated based on the applications present, and their classification.

Also, it may or may not be related that the PCManFM file manager doesn't show any applications. Normally, if I click on "Applications", applications are listed as if they are files, and this functions as a type of menu. Now when I click on "Applications" nothing shows up.

Any ideas how to fix this?

By the way, Mageia 5 looks great, and thanks to everyone who made it possible!

Hi jimg

can you check to see if "task-lxde" is installed:
open a terminal "alt+f2" and "lxterm" (I think)
"su"
"password"
"urpmi task-lxde"
or "drakconf" which should start MCC if you prefer a GUI.

"task-lxde" and "lxterminal" are both installed. I'm not seeing an "lxterm".

Also, I don't know if it's related, but I get an error message when I log in:

GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Error.Failed: An authentication agent already exists for the given subject

I'm sorry I didn't say this earlier, the error message wasn't available at the time.

Due to the upgrade from mga4 => mga5 you need to follow the errata paragraph for LXDE to fix the menu:

That did it! Thanks! Shame on me for not reading the errata.
