[DONE] Classic installer: freezes after creating logical vol

Postby vecciora » Jul 31st, '15, 17:43

The classic installer freezes after I click OK for creating a logical volume in a virtual group. I've tried to create a logical volume using the installer approximately more than 3 times and still get the same result (the installer freezes).

The ISO is fine. I've checked the MD5.

Oh. The version is Mageia 5 64-Bit.

Is there anybody kind enough to try? Or is there anybody who have the same experience already? Is there already a bug report about this? :)

must admit, i cant understand what you are getting at with "creating a logical volume in a virtual group"

perhaps im not alone and thats why this post remains unanswered.

can you be a little bit more descriptive with the above.

even take it from the beginning, to the point it errors.

Oh. It's not virtual group. It's volume group. My bad.

So when I got into the partitioning part of the installation I created a volume group and then I created a logical volume inside it which I selected to be formatted as swap or ext4 and then I pressed OK. After I pressed OK the installer freezes. And it's always like that.

Just tested in a VM and works fine. Cannot even select to format the LVs at all in normal mode, why do you try that?

In the next step it will automatically format them.

Bottom line: IF you use custom partitioning, and then enable expert mode, you should be aware of what you're doing.
This works just as designed - you cannot format a filesystem if the underlying LV has not yet been written out to disk.

Please mark the thread accordingly by editing the topic of the first post and prefix it by [DONE], thanks

Maybe I should post a video and show the process. Maybe tonight.

Just tried to create a logical volume. It works fine.

https://youtu.be/LltcvIBNrQ4

In the video I've already created a volume group for creating a logical volume in it. This is basically the same as what I did to get the installer freezes before (the difference is that the installer freezes after I clicked "Ok"), but with different partition configuration from that time.

So maybe there was something wrong which I don't know what it is at that time.

So the installer works fine. I'll mark the topic as [DONE].

Thank you.

*note: No need to toggle expert mode if you already created a volume group beforehand.
