[DONE] ISO dumping to USB doesn't work

Postby johannesw » Jun 23rd, '15, 19:26

Hello

I wanted to create an USB-stick with Mageia 5. Unfortunately it doesn't work. I tried it with "usbdumper" and with "mandriva-seed".
It's always the same message:

File H:/Linux distros/Mageia-5-x86_64-DVD.iso
The selected iso isn't hybrid

The same even happens if I take the live Iso:
File H:/Linux distros/Mageia-5-LiveDVD-GNOME-x86_64-DVD.iso
The selected iso isn't hybrid

That's strange because i read somewhere on the homepage, that all Mageia isos are hybrid!

Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong or how to fix that problem?

Thanks,
Johannes

Btw I'm using Windwos 7 64 bit

Yes, the issue about usbdumper is currently under clarification.
Currently you need to use something that is based on dd, either the original for windows: http://www.chrysocome.net/dd
(beware about how to specify the target disk, that is pretty ugly windows notation)
There seems to be a GUI for this https://sourceforge.net/projects/ddgui/
or you could try https://sourceforge.net/projects/windd/

Hello,
I have altered usbdumper to give only a warning when ISO is detected as not hybrid. Thus, you can ignore the warning.
The new version is just uploaded, perhaps need some time to be synced.

usbdumper is gone from the Mageia website; there's no longer even a mention of it.

It is still linked on the downloads page, when you mouse-over on "USB drive".

Hello,
I found that some other tools was better as usbdumper. It have a problem which need first to delete the partition, which is not convenient.
After spending some hours to found how to manage that, I had no success. Thus, I stop to spent time on it and I recommend to use another tool, like rufus, with the option "Iso image".

Hello,

Agree with papoteur. I used Rufus on my side form my old Win to create the USB bootable key, works well and correctly.
I also used this tool (Rufus) to create the doudoulinux bootable key for my daughter.

Cheers,
