boot cmd line instead of OS

Postby arya » Jul 22nd, '11, 13:11

Hi,
I've got some problems to install Mageia on my DELL Zino HD. I know that the problem is the DELL Zino. Anyways, I've tried any options, full DVD, live CD, NET CD, USB w/ full installation, Live ins. and in the end I was able to launch the install program via USB NETWORK iso. But I've had to choose the TEXT interface and the CD/DVD rom source. That because I wasn't able to set my lan card.
So, now I could choose witch OS to boot**, but Mageia boot the cmd line, asking login/pwd, and not the OS.

I've run out of options, how could I resolve this problem?

Thank you

** windows didn't boot, but I fixed it using win7 install CD.

Remark: what you see IS the OS. The graphical interface with all its applications is just an addition to the OS.

Nitpicking set aside, did you install a graphical desktop (like KDE, Gnome, LXDE, XFCe, whatever)? Did you install the x environment?

At the login log yourself in as user and then type 'startx' - this should start the graphical desktop.

If it does not, pls report here with what the system tells.

I'm a newbie so be patient :)
Your remark is sacrosanct! And thanks to it I remembered that the TEXT interface didn't ask me which gui to istall. So right now i guess this is the issue.
Infact startx fails giving many rows, here some that look more significant :
xauth: file /root/.serverauth.2338 does not exist
xauth: file /root/.xauthority does not exist
...
...
X.org X server 1.10.1
...
...
fatal server error:
no screens found

do you need the full message?
