[SOLVED] Mageia 5 starts in UEFI mode, fails to install

Postby santo » Jun 26th, '15, 16:55

Hi all...
tryed to install Mageia5 but no success...

After the partition stage I get a message that I must have a partition mounted on /boot/EFI ( or Uefi...do not remember now...) ...
at the first attempt I did dedicate a small partition mounted on it but at the end I got the message error 15...

I downloaded the DVD via torrent...the installation DVD carries MAGEIA 5 UEFI at the top of the screen...
I am stuck there
I have a dual boot with Windows XP...tryed different routes but no success....
Any suggestions?

meanwhile I am back to Mageia4...

TIA

santo

Hi there,

what particular DVD did you download, please provide the full name.
Did you verify the md5sum for your download? And did you burn it to a DVD?

Please check https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Installing_o ... I_firmware
As you have windows XP, the disk is most likely MBR-partitioned so you cannot do a supported UEFI installation.
You need to tell your system to boot that mageia dvd in legacy mode, not in UEFI mode.

yes i understood that,...I forgot to mention in my OP that after partitioning I was presented with a message that ' I must have a partition mounted on /boot/EFI'
after which the installation would not continue...that is why at my first installation I did create a small partition and put it on /boot/EFI but as I said it did not work...

I do not know how to tell my system that...I should have put at the the beginning that in term I should be considered a newbie ...not so much good in technical stuff...

Hi Santo,

put disk into reader and then reboot and enter BIOS. you need to press the "delete" key, before windows starts to boot.

locate and be sure that "Launch CSM" is enabled
Boot option filter: enable "Legacy only"

as this will be a non UEFI install, you wont need to worry about /boot/EFI partition
