[SOLVED] Install hangs and computer reboots

Postby abda11ah » Oct 2nd, '14, 21:39

Hi,

I downloaded the net-install iso of the latest mageia x86_64 (boot-nonfree.iso)
Then I made an USB flash disk copy using Rufus(on Windows 7 x64)

I tried many boot modes like VGA mode etc... but all the boot modes failed and reboots the computer when loading of the file all.rdz

Here is a short summary of my motherboard (4GB DDR2) :

Sounds rather like https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11679. Does that match what you are seeing?

On my hardware, the Mageia-3 ISOs worked OK. Try installing Mageia-3, and then follow one of the procedures described in https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_4_Release_Notes#Upgrading_from_Mageia_3 to upgrade to Mageia-4.

Also, as I recall, the Mageia-4 Live DVD worked OK, so you could do an install from that.

I just tried the DVD dualarch with XFCE Desktop (1GB sized). When I choose "install Mageai" at boot menu i can see a small cursor that blinks on the top left corner of the screen. I waited about 20 minutes but nothing more, no hard drive activity, no other things than the cursor.

The dualarch DVD, was that Mageia 4 or 3? Did you check the comment from martinw above?

Sorry - I'd forgotten this detail. Running the installer from the boot menu of the Mageia-4 Live DVD did not work either. Try booting to the live desktop and then clicking on the "Install on Hard Disk" icon on the desktop.

I tried Mageia 3 CD dual-arch (700MB) from https://www.mageia.org/en/3/download_index.php
I tried all the available modes on boot-menu :
- Default
- No ACPI
- No local APIC
- Safe settings
- 640x480 / 800x600 / text
It always reboots after a quick loading bar.

I will make a try of Mageia-4 Live DVD

Problem solved:

I solved it by setting the storage option to Native mode IDE in the BIOS.
