Where are the KDE updates?

This forum is dedicated to basic help and support :

Ask here your questions about basic installation and usage of Mageia. For example you may post here all your questions about getting Mageia isos and installing it, configuring your printer, using your word processor etc.

Try to ask your questions in the right sub-forum with as much details as you can gather. the more precise the question will be, the more likely you are to get a useful answer

Okay, we'll stop here.

Let's sum this up in case someone has a similar viewpoint in the future:

1) use "Cauldron" for newest KDE packages!
2) join the Mageia QA test team!

BTW, maybe you may be happy to hear that "Mageia" is back on #4 on Distrowatch! :-D Don't know what happenend exactly, maybe it's because of the release of 4.1. But I'm glad that it's a positive trend and hope it will stay this way.

P.S.: In case someone is searching for KDE updates and what changed, here is the bug tracker, here is the official release announcement website.

Thank you for participating in this discussion,
All the best to you
You lost me because of the mess and unworkable Mageia 6.

Well, 4.12.5 is in Mga4 updates_testing, but it is not sure it'll stay there and even less sure it'll end up in Mageia 4 updates.

QA team has not started testing the updates, because the jump to 4.12.x is against our updates policy.

If you want to increase the chance that 4.12.5 becomes available as normal update, then test those packages extensively asap and report the results of your test (any differences with the current version you spot, regressions, improvements etc.) on the qa-discuss mailing list.

Testing isn't a guarantee the 4.12.5 updates will be accepted, though, it only increases the chance.

For what it is worth, I have deployed 4.12.5 on my new FreeBSD 10 virtual machine. While installing 4.12.5 proved VERY painful in the FreeBSD environment - I even had to edit some of the KDE source code to fix missing #include and #define statements - once I had it up and running it works very well. To this point, I have identified zero issues with that version of KDE, and I have been making heavy use of the VM for the last couple of weeks. I have not been using kmail or akonadi, though, so I cannot say they work any better than 4.10

So, I would expect that the testing of 4.12.5 on Mageia 4 would go well, and I think that it definitely should be considered as an update to Mageia 4 when it is ready.

It's not assigned to qa team yet so we start to testing it when it's assigned to us.

And please next time do not use fullquotes, but only use the Reply function. Greatly improves clarity and reading flow ;)

I've split out that post and banned him, after discussing this between moderators. Only saw the links in the signature, but after my reply when I wanted to remove the quote saw the replaced arabic links there too, which is highly unusual.
