[ABANDONED] Kfilebox/Dropbox fumble

Postby klwilcoxon » Jul 7th, '14, 18:48

Hello -

Trying to follow along with the instructions at https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Dropbox, I can get through the process until it comes to setting Kfilebox preferences, where the Misc options are grayed out. I go ahead and click OK, at which time the Dropbox icon appears and quickly disappears. I look at the Kboxfile icon and there is a red X. I've tried different approaches and always end with the red X.

Is there a permissions issue or something I'm not understanding?

P.S. I pledge to update https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Dropbox if I can solve this.

Many thanks

I can only point to viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7614
I've had that issue too, IMHO it was solved by switching to another icon theme, manually installing dropbox as explained in viewtopic.php?p=44799#p44799 and then rebooting.

Even now when kfilebox is working, in misc options everything besides the icon theme is greyed out ...

Unfortunately, the problem remains. I'll try Myles' trick:

"Okay, I don't know what is going on. I shut down my PC overnight and this morning I booted it up, and low and behold - Dropbox is now working!! :o"

I appreciate your help. I'm going to submit a dropbox ticket.

Hi,
Very new to all this and have been trying to follow the bouncing ball in the Wiki with some success and have followed the forum (and other linked forums) but my problem is a little different.

I'm using Mageia 4 fully updated (near as I can tell) and KDE and following:

https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Dropbox

I have the Dropbox icon in the sys tray with red 'x'.
In preferences I have the option to 'Start Dropbox' (not 'Stop Dropbox')
I have entered the location of the Dropbox folder in my home directory.
In the misc tab Dolphin is selected (but greyed out) and the browser is greyed out as well and not changeable from 'reconq'
When I try to get to the directory /home/user/.dropbox-dist it says 'No such file or directory'
Trying to get to hidden files in Dolphin also reveals only a '.directory' file.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled, rebooted and still I can't get Dropbox functioning.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers
Chris

Did you try viewtopic.php?p=44799#p44799 as suggested above?

Thanks doktor,
Worked through that post and also the others mentioned prior to posting. They seem to be different to mine as they tried to install nautilus (gnome ) or they can't see the icon.
When my system starts up it has an installer running for daemon, when it finishes a box with two buttons comes up and asks if I want to 'Run GTK based installer' or 'Or simply link account'. Clicking on either of these has the same action as described above.
I suspect it is in the installation as I don't have the hidden file described in the wiki.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated as not being able to get Dropbox to work (relatively easily ) will be a showstopper for me.

Had the above mentioned box also come up recently, after switching icon themes, on next login it popped up. I've clicked on simply link account, but it was working before anyways.

I can only provide two hints:

- it doesn't seem to be working anymore with nautilus
- run the wget and install command that I've linked to above

Thanks Doktor,
Switched to Linux Mint and problem solved. I think Mageia may just be a 'Bridge to far' for my Linux conversion!

Thanks for your time though it is appreciated to have replies.

Cheers
