RPM DB Always Corrupt

Postby mrligugu » May 4th, '14, 17:55

Dear fellow Mageians,

I will cut straight to the point. The RPM database is always corrupting and I am always having to rebuild it via konsole. Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem once and for all, so that this no longer happens, because it has happenned a number of times now and is starting to annoy me.

All help is much appreciated as always! :)

Hi

sorry to hear that you are having problems.
I take it that the problem occurs when you attempt to install / uninstall a program.
It could be that you have a corrupted / failing HDD and that part of the RPM DB is written to that sector of the drive.
Another option is that the mirror you are accessing has a problem with access and is causing issues downloading a valid RPM DB- unlikely but it can occur.
I suggest- if you haven't already, to swap out the HDD and try another and / or
manually set your mirror to a different one.

Downloading valid rpm DB? Downloading packages does not have anything to do with rpm DB at all ...

I supposed you already tried to delete /var/lib/rpm/__db* ?

Do you by any chance have the system shutdown or reboot for any reason while using rpmdrake?

Maybe if the power goes off while installing, removing or updating some programme could cause a sudden failure for your rpm DB..
