boot kernels don't show in drakboot when setting default

Postby zxr250cc » Feb 12th, '14, 21:33

I have MGA4 on a laptop and all is well. On a desktop with AMD 3800+, 2 GB RAM and ATI video board with 32 bit KDE I have the follwing problem:

I open drakboot --boot and set the default kenel to windows, the linux kernel to the latest Linux 3.12.9-desktop586-1.mga4 i686 kernel and then save the results. When I open the panel again all the settings show as blank. The computer boots OK but it does not allow me to set the Windows install as default. While I might consider that an OK option for me I have others using the Windows install side that do not wish to use Linux and I wish it to be default for simplicity of booting for them.

Reinstall OS to cure this? ??

The T-23 Think Pad install I also have works perfectly from the same 32 bit LIVE disk install and shows all of the settings as expected in the drakboot section when started.

Thoughts?

cheers all

Do you maybe use grub2?

Yes, in both. One shows the kernels and one doesn't. ??

I set the desktop computer to grub, from grub2, and it shows kernels... Why is this as it is? :?

You can try
rename

/etc/grub.d/30_os-prober
in
/etc/grub.d/09_os-prober

if only Mageia and WIN are on the computer!
as root in the console/terminal
Code: Select all
mv /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober /etc/grub.d/09_os-prober

update-grub2
or
update-grub
reboot

However, I do not know if that survives a kernel update. ;)

You read the Errata? https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_4_Errata#Grub2
