Yes, I was able to load Mageia 4, after the first upgrade from Mageia 3. Although, I was using Grub2 at that time also. I used Grub2 with Mageia 3 for quite some time and never had a problem with it.
For partitioning (during "fresh" install) I selected the second option: "erase and use entire drive", I then selected the drive that previously had my bootloader (ie: grub2) on it, as the place to setup the new grub2.
Please Note: All of the choices that I opted to use during these upgrades and installs, were options that were available to use, within the parameters of an "automatted" install or upgrade. I did not choose any "custom" or otherwise, esoteric parameters, other than using Grub2 and putting it on another physical drive. I just wiped, and installed Ubuntu 13.04 on this same drive and system, using the same, basic setup, and it is working fine, I'm using it now. I do appreciate all of the great effort and creative insight that goes into this project, and will continue to use Mageia. But, at this stage, I will go back to Mageia3 (so that I can get back to work!) (Vielen Dank für Ihre Zeit und Hilfe!)
