[SOLVED] Cannot Boot after network install...

Postby tkmm » Nov 6th, '13, 23:45

I just did a network install of Mageia 3 from Cauldron and now every time I boot I get the Mageia Boot screen instead of GRUB. No matter what I try to load from the prompt I'm taken through the network install steps again. I reinstalled Cauldron from USB and it still boots to the network installer instead of grub. Please help!!

I'm trying to understand what you did.

How did you do your network install, by using the boot.iso? Where did you put it?
(I never tried anything else than putting it on a CD or on a USBkey)

When you re-installed cauldron, on which partiton did you put "/" and where did you choose to put the bootloader?

I'm rather pleased with GRUB2 I put it at the beginning of sda and it perfectly detects all OSs that are intstalled, only the personalized names I give to use in the bootloader (in the summary step during install) are ignored by GRUB2

I feel foolish! Please delete this thread. I burned the image to CD and then decided to dd it to usb. I booted from usb, but forgor that the CD was in the drive... So EVERY time I rebooted it booted from the CD until I realized I had left it in there!

No don't delete, i think it is something anyone can happen.
Just like, "are you sure the PC is plugged in"?
Sounds stupid, but i wouldn't like to feed all those. ;)

Something like that could have happened to me, too ;-)

You might be able to delete this thread yourself, since you started it, but even if you can, I agree with isadora that it is better not to delete it, because it can be very helpful to others.

Thank you very much, by the way, for telling what had gone wrong. That is very courageous! :-D

I wish everyone had the courage to do that, because we all learn from each others mistakes.

Thank you both for the kind words. Mageia has a wonderful community and is one of the reasons I choose this distro.
