Package Manager is slow

Postby pnbalaji » Nov 13th, '13, 18:38

Hi,

Currently I am using Linux Mint in my home desktop and work laptop with out any issues. I am trying Megeia on my netbook and so far it is great. One of the main issue I am seeing is that the package manager is slow when refreshing. Even when I install a small package like keepassx, as soon as the package is installed, the package manager gets refreshed and it takes longer time than I would expect with any package manager.

Is there a way to improve the "refresh speed" of the package manager? My selection is "ALL" instead of "Packages with GUI".

Thanks,
Balaji.

Nope, there's not. But you could use urpmi instead, then you don't need to wait for any refreshes, and it's blazing fast.
For software management please have a look at https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Software_management or maybe https://wiki.mageia.org/en/URPMI and also https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Install_and_ ... r_beginner

urpmi seems to be the way to go.

Thanks for your help. I have some other questions related to mageia on laptop at work with Docking station, but I will post a new topic for that.

Thanks,
Balaji.
