TexLive 2013 for Mageia2?

Postby LaCiccia » Sep 14th, '13, 16:07

Hi!
How can I install TexLive 2013 on Mageia 2 i586? I previously had TexLive 2011 for Mageia 2 installed through the repository but I have uninstalled it and I am looking for the 2013 version with updated features such as the fontawesome + fontspec support for moderncv package which is not available for Texlive 2011.
I have found this website: http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/searc ... ry=texlive
but I don't know what to pick from the list.
I suppose I should download and try installing the SourceForge.net rpm: texlive-20130530-1.ram0.97.i686.rpm?

Can someone please help me out?

I'd start with the home page of the project http://tug.org/texlive/ and use the instructions that are available there (there are also mailing lists).

For Mageia, malo is currently doing a lot of work on TexLive and related packages. I hope that when he finished doing the most urgent things, that he'll have time to update TexLive in cauldron to version 2013, so that it'll be in Mageia 4.

Suppose TexLive 2013 comes out at the end of the year, do I have to replace Mageia 2 with Mageia 4 otherwise I will have some problem installing TeXlive 2013?

Well, you'll have to replace Mageia 2 anyway, because it'll reach the end of its life end of November.

For a production system, we don't advise to use Mageia 4 before it is stable (expected February 1st), though, so if you need a system you can rely on, you'll have to use Mageia 3 for a while.

Tbh, I don't expect a complicated package like TeXLive to install well on a different Mageia version than it was made for.

You might want to have a look at http://tug.org/texlive/ again.

I asked Malo on IRC, and he replied:

2013:09:15:18:08 < malo> marja: I would recommend the user to install from tug directly

2013:09:15:18:16 < malo> marja: it's just that we will not update texlive for mga2, and any
other package will likely be compiled with newer libs, and therefore
not work.
