Archive manager for KDE

Postby zugunder » Aug 6th, '13, 18:22

Hi,

I need to use an archiving program with a possibility to set a password on the archive. Unfortunately, neither Ark not Xarchiver do have this function. Moreover, they both fail to open password protected archives created by 7-zip in Windows. File Roller seems to be OK (it is capable of opening password-protected archives at least), but it requires installation of slightly less than a half of Gnome desktop.
Could anyone suggest a good archiver for KDE? I could try to compile it from the source.
Running 7-zip under Wine is not an option.

Thank you.

http://peazip.sourceforge.net/ could be an alternative.
There seem to be packages available from the russian Mageia community http://pkgs.org/search/?keyword=peazip
but it seems to require a fairly new version of lazarus to compile it.

Otherwise there's squeeze, and also http://alternativeto.net/software/xarch ... form=linux

Strange, I do not see Squeeze in the repositories... Is it still a default archive manager for XFCE?

If it would be avaiable in the repositories, i'd have mentioned that. You asked for other archivers - but anyways i'm not sure it will offer more features than file-roller, ark or xarchiver.

I have not found a 100% satisfactory option for it after all.
As of now, I have installed 64bit GTK portable PeaZip, it seems to be OK.
Qt portable PeaZip doesn't want to start and reports a missing library, which I believe (according to the file name) is present in the directory with Peazip executable.
Peazip RPM, as it needs really new Lazarus, seems to be out of question for me.
I'll probably write a short how-to on Peazip install and integration in KDE.

Thank you.
