Try to ask your questions in the right sub-forum with as much details as you can gather. the more precise the question will be, the more likely you are to get a useful answer

[solved for me in MGA3] Desktop freezes

Postby dedanna1029 » May 26th, '13, 21:12

Reinstalling with MGA3 solved this for me; I think it was going up to KDE4.10.2 that did it. I have one other KDE issue that remains, and *could be possibly (not definitely)* memory-related, but it's a separate issue.

Well, maybe it was just some old configuration files in /home ? You could have ruled that out via creating a new user (just saying, so next time you don't have to reinstall - saves quite some time)

No, I was on a clean install on MGA2, and have just formatted / (root) for the install of MGA3.

Leftover /home files would've screwed KDE in MGA3 if what you say were the case.

FWIW, I'm seeing this now - having moved from a Mageia 1 to Mageia 3 system (same hardware)

AMD Phenom II x6
ATI Radeon 4290 (using default 'radeon' driver)
12GB memory
1TB disk

System is still functional (as I have a putty session from an XP system), and I can kill startkde, get the kdm back, and run again successfully for 3 more days. After the second killing startkde, I wind up having to reboot.

I thought it was the driver, but before I went to install the radeon kernel, I tried Xfce and now no lockups for > 3 days. I like the KDE calendar tool (KOrganizer), so I'm running it - but it requires Akonadi :-( Having read through this set of entries, I'm wondering if I should kill akonadi and search for a different calendar tool - or if it's an interaction between KDE and Akonadi.
