Installing new fonts

Postby jimg » May 31st, '13, 03:59

First, I'm new to Mageia and I'm very, very impressed. Everything works, and it's very efficient! Thank you!

Mandrake got me started with Linux many years ago, but eventually I got tired of things not working. Finding something like Mandrake, but with an attention to quality, is like a dream come true.

Is it possible to install fonts in Mageia, if they're not packaged? For instance, TrueType. To offer a concrete example, how about Goodfish, which can be found at http://www.dafont.com/goodfish.font for instance?

Thanks!

download the zip file, uncompress it, start Mageia control center go to "system" then "Manage fonts". Click "Import" then "Add" the 4 fonts (either .otf or .ttf, they both will work). Once they are in the list click "install".

I just installed goodfish...took 2 minutes

I may have spoke too soon. The .otf did not work. The .ttf files did install correctly.

From the Mageia help system about "drakfont":

Import:

Allows you to add fonts from a third party (CD, internet, ...). The supported formats are ttf, pfa, pfb, pcf, pfm and gsf. Click on the Import button and then on Add, a file manager pops up where you can select the fonts to install, click on Install when done. They are installed in the folder /usr/share/fonts.

Jimg, please be so kind marking the topic solved.

You can do so by editing the title/subject of the first message in the topic.
Place [SOLVED] in front of subject/title, and that' s it. :)

Thanks, and a nice day!!!! :)
