wine not on the DVD? Which package to chose?

Postby ludotw » May 31st, '13, 09:42

wine doesn't seem to be on the DVD of the latest mageia 3 release (may 19th).
On http://www.winehq.org/download/
which package should I chose?

I believe Mageia is compatible with the Red Hat / CentOS / Fedora packages, but I'd just want to be sure...

Hi

Go to Mageia Control Centre.
If you haven't already configure your repositories.
when done go to install / remove software
I reset to show all package types.
In the search window type " wine "
all available wine packages will be shown. select wine32 or wine64 [ your OS type ] .click the apply button

try this also : https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Newcomers_start_here

Thanks benmc.
For the moment I have no access to internet on my target computer, now I get it why I couldn't find wine from Mageia Control Center.

select wine32 or wine64 [ your OS type ]

Is it OS type on linux or windows side? I mean my linux is a 64 bits version, but I'd say that wine32 is to run MSwindows 32bits programs, and wine64 for 64 bits programs. Is it so? Or can I install wine64 and it will be compatible with MSwindows 32 bits programs?

hi

When you search for Wine in the Mageia Control Centre it finds the Wine packages in the Mageia 3 software repository, which is why you have to enable them.
Software in these repositories have been extensively tested to work with Mageia, and also, this way, when any updates are issued the repositories automatically advise your computer and let you choose to update.
If you download Wine from Wine HQ you will have to periodically check to see if there are updates.
You will need a working internet connection to set up the repositories.

regarding the 32 or 64 bit types.
If you have M3-64 the software manager will offer both the wine64 and wine32 package, but, when you install the wine64 package , it will also install the wine32 package, and any libraries and assistant packages needed.
If you have M3-32 the software manager will only offer wine32 and any libraries and assistant packages needed.

Cheers
