Not too sure if this is:
1/. A problem
2/. More configuration needed
3/. My stupidity
Sorry if I step on any toes with this post...bit frustrated.
I have limited bandwidth so decided to download the Mageia-3-dual-CD
- bit worried that it wouldn't have my connection requirements on it.
I was right no internet access via my mobile dongle (my only way to access the internet)
- so testing in virtualbox to sort it out before installing on a real partition.
Not a problem as MCC recognized the device but couldn't configure it. Frustrating!
So, shutdown (in VB) and rebooted without the dongle (dongle connected via normal system).
urpmi comgt --no-install --resume
urpmi ppp --no-install --resume
urpmi ppp-dhcp --no-install --resume
Got the packages and dependencies that I would need for the install in the real world (all that I thought) - installed them ..the system scanned for networks but failed to find. So manually configure and couldn’t connect.
Checked /var/log/messages....not there!!!! No syslog (syslog-ng) installed?
dmesg|tail show the following
.366.666917] option 2-2:1.1: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
[ 366.667121] usb 2-2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0

Sometime (but not all the time) I get the following after the config (from MCC/Network)
Congratulations, the network configuration is finished.
However, the Internet connectivity test failed. You should test your connection manually, and verify your Internet modem or router.
If your connection does not work, you might want to relaunch the configuration.:
ping "anything" fails...after a awhile.
I noted that /etc/resolv.conf had three entries in it:
nameserver 10.0.2.3
nameserver 189.40.226.80
nameserver 189.40.224.80
Which is a bit strange....if one dns fails does it automatically try the next in the list?
Now I'm starting to get out of my depth so though I would ask the techie wizards for help.
I have the sneaky suspicion that I need to get more packages but what I don’t know.
As a long time mageia 2 user who is keen to update to v.3 (with a nice clean start away from the bloat, tweaked and creaking v.2 install) any help would be appreciated.
Bit strange that mobile connectivity isn't a basic necessity...modern world and all that.
And why does my login screen sometimes look like slim and the next reboot LXDM?
On a plus shared folders in virtualbox worked ouf of the box. A first!
Regards and thanks
