[SOLVED] - reinstall urpmi / Mageia Control Centre

Postby gohlip » Mar 23rd, '13, 21:37

Mageia 3 beta 3.
I lost my MCC at the menu and launcher; in fact, I think I lost it permanently.
Here's how I think it got lost.....
For the last 4 days, there is an upgrade available for rpmdrake, urpmi and gurpmi, but attempting to upgrade results in errors and upgrade subsequently failed. I noted a post in the forum where this was resolved, however it continued to fail for me. Then going into MCC itself, i noticed there are 2 packages (with different version numbers) for each of these 3 items. Thinking I could resolve this by uninstalling the older version and install the new version (note they are listed as separate packages), I proceeded and ....here I am. :)

How can I get my MCC back? Thanks.

ps:Till now, I don't use terminal commands eg drakecut, urpmi...in Mageia for my own nostalgic (don't ask, thanks :) ) reasons;
expecting now that I may have to (and not sure if aforesaid commands now will actually work), please be as thorough and detailed when helping me out. Appreciate it.

Cheers (still).

Oh... I can boot up, do practically anything as before but I don't think I can install, upgrade or get a notification when updates are available.

The only thing I can think is to get a live dvd, and mount your hard drive from there, install drakxtools to it??? Not sure exactly what the process would be to do it, though.

Simply open a terminal, and as root do:
Code: Select all
urpmi drakconf
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

Open a terminal (konsole in KDE) and become root
Code: Select all
su -
When asked for a password enter the root (administrator) password.
and then enter:
Code: Select all
urpmi drakconf rpmdrake
I think that should get back mcc and rpmdrake

I kind of assumed that urpmi was lost too?

Thanks dedanna, doktor5000, jkerr82508 and dedanna1029 for your responses.
Tried in Mageia terminal (as root)
Code: Select all
urpmi drakconf rpmdrake
gives
Code: Select all
command not found

Then reboot on Mageia3 livecd,
at livecd terminal (as root)
Code: Select all
mount /dev/sda2 /mnt   <that's where my mageia is>
mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev
mount --bind /proc /mnt/proc
chroot /mnt
urpmi drakconf rpmdrake
gives again
Code: Select all
command not found

Ah well.......I'll just have to wait for Mageia3 final release and reinstall again.
After all, this Mageia without MCC is operational well and good
and installation is easy as I have my data and config files (.mozilla, .thunderbird, etc...) in "non-OS" partitions which I can sym-link over in a jiffy....er, I mean fstab.

Thanks again everyone for your help and Cheers!

You can still use rpm directly to install packages, also directly from the mirrors, but you need to install any dependecy manually.
So, to install urpmi on an x86_64 cauldron box you can do:
Code: Select all
rpm -Uhv ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/mageia/distrib/cauldron/x86_64/media/core/release/urpmi-7.22-1.mga3.noarch.rpm
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

Thanks! doktor5000. your command works to install urpmi
After that I used these to install drakconf and rpmdrake.

My MCC is back!

You're a genius, doktor5000. Thanks! Danke! Grube!

Cheers, thanks to all.
