[SOLVED] Mageia 2012 won't boot

Postby brogers » Mar 4th, '13, 05:30

I am trying to install Mageia 2012 onto a Dell Latitide D420.

The 1st menu comes up [asking if I want to Boot Mageia, Install Mageia or Boot from the Hard Disk.

If i select either Boot Mageia or Install Mageia the systme 'thinks for a while"
i.e. the CD Drive spins and is accesed, but then all I get is a blank screen.
No propts for Language, TimeZone, etc.

Any Ideas?

Yes Mageia2.

As for the video card -- i am not sure, it is whatever is integrated with the laptop.

I take it you are using one of the Live CDs. I don't have one to hand, so can't give you the exact details, but at the boot menu, one of the function keys lets you select a different graphics driver (look at the bottom of the screen for help). Try selecting the 'vesa' driver, and see if that gets you any further.

Yes i did use a LIVE CD.

The options are:

F1Help. F2Language F3800x600 F4CD Rom F5Driver F6Kernal Option

The only Display like option is F3
The F3 Choices are
TEXT
680x400
800x600
1024x768

I tried all and the same thing happens.
With each the same thing happens
I get the funny circle with the 2 or three dots, then the screen blanks.
Then Nothing......

Is there a different option that I should change?

The F5 choices are just Yes/No

Press F6, select default, and then you can append some kernel option on the appearing line.

I solved my problem.
Instead of installing from the Mageia 2 CD, I installed from the Mageia 2 DVD
