[SOLVED] plugins for Firefox

Postby oldbiddie » Dec 14th, '12, 11:25

I have installed Mageia 2 (64) on my laptop. Everything works fine except I cannot find the plugins to install for Firefox 10.0.11.I have installed all updates ( must have missed that one). I triedOpera and find I lack plugins there too.
Where do I find them?
TIA

In Firefox: Tools->Add-ons ;)

Thanks, I had been there and enabled the plugins but.....nothing. I had also understood that it is best to download things via Mageia

yes. I am not too bothered because it seems it is mainly for some publicities but if I manage to make things work, even better

on the occasional page where it seems I need a plugin, I get a window that says: install missing plugin. When I click on it, it searches forever

Hello there!
Opera invariably uses Firefox plugins, so if they are not installed for Firefox then they are not available for Opera.
For the 64bit version of Firefox the plugins are normally stored in /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins

To find out what plugins are installed type in the address bar of Firefox 'about:plugins' without the apostrophes.
This will give you a full list of what is installed. Any that are missing you should be able to install from either the repositories or Firefox plugin libraries.
I have always been able to install from the repositories without problem.

I hope that is of help to you.

Thanks Oldcodger. Looks as though Firefox has disabled my old version of Java and therefore I have no plugins enabled. I should have thought the Mageia updates would have seen to this old Java.

How do I find the plugins in the repository? Or I can down;oad from Mozilla. I'll do all this tonight since I get unlimited connection at night ( am on satellite).
thanks

I think you will need to install some 'IcedTea' from the repositories.
Just look for java runtime and you should be OK.

well, it didn't work. I stopped looking last night but now I realize I need this plugin for all sorts of things. I am told I am up to date with the version and still don't know where/what plugin to download.
I saw there was another thread on this subject but no solution provided
