Mageia takes too long to be ready after log-in

Postby linuxero » Jul 9th, '12, 14:54

Hi dear Mageans;

I am using Mageia 2 KDE 64bit. I noticed that after logging in my system takes a couple of minute before being fully ready. I have no personalised autostarts. The welcom-sound is only heared almost a minute after logging in, the icon for network applet shows after a bit more of a minute..the whole system is only fully responsive after 2 minutes, more or less.

Is this normal? Is anyone else having this minor problem?

Thank you.

Could be you are short of RAM or CPU. I know someone with similar log in delays to you, but she only has 512MB of RAM and KDE really needs at least 1MB

Mine stalls at log in and I think it depends on the network. I think it is waiting on the net to connect. I have noticed that sometimes it is just ready and others it takes about 90 seconds. I also have Kopete on auto start, but I think it is normal.

You could disable connect at boot and see if that is it.

Your system may be different and something is hanging for a bit. I've been going to check into mine and it is not really a problem.

I doubt it. I have Intel Quad with 8GB Ram, the other one is AMD with 4GB Ram. But this is my case on every Mageia installation, anyway..

@yankee495
I have nothing that starts automatically except for Nepomok, which I don't like by the way but I guess I wouldn't be able to use Kmail without.. :( I even removed the clipboard and the other Daemon that comes by default in Mageia.

My situation is that about 50% CPU usage and continuous hard disk reads last for a minute or so, and that the login sound delays for 15~30 seconds.

There is a related bug report: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5952

FWIW, boot time to desktop is like ~20 seconds here, with Konversation auto-starting and Nepomuk enabled, no delays.

The boot process is quite acceptable, but the readiness after login I mean to talk about

Yeah, someone mentioned that to me, i think it was wobo, that he (and others) has to wait for the login sound to play, before the desktop is like frozen or not responding, and it may take like 20 seconds or so for the login sound to play. Should be reported as a bug, but there should also be some clear and reproducable steps to the developers can take a look: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_report_a_bug_properly
