how to log in as root<<<<SOLVED>>>>>>>>>>

Postby bobcatbrown520 » Aug 22nd, '12, 03:05

I did my install ok. Booted up my computer then it asked me for my root password, then usernames and passwords. Now I need to edit my samba config files and host allow files but I cannot edit them with gedit because I am not logged in as root. This is a problem as on my loggin screen there is no option for logging in as root. Anyone tell me how to fix this so I can be root and edit my files??

What is your desktop environment (KDE, Gnome, etc)?
Regardless of that you can run terminal as root and start any editor you want from there (as root).
Does it sound familiar or you need a step-by-step instructions?

P.S. Your login screen is OK, there should not be any "root" account. And it is a very bad idea to log into the system as root.
