Shutoff unnecessary services via MCC

Postby Trio3b » Jun 25th, '12, 20:13

Former MDV user. Used to be I could kind of figure out which services I could shutoff to preserve resources. Currently running MGA2 on MSI KT6V / ATI Radeon 9250 with 1 gb RAM and would like to shut down unnecessary stuff via MCC but there appears to be lots of new stuff I have no idea what it is for. Any links or help as to what can be selected not to start at boot?

Thanks

Well, it would be useful what is currently running (services-wise), and also which desktop environment you're using so we can take a look.
Apart from that, in the services management in MCC you will see lots of systemd-specific services, as with Mageia 2 we have switched the old
SysV-Init to systemd. You don't need to disable much of those, won't save any resources.

You may want to have a look at https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_2_Rel ... nitscripts
and http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SysVinit_ ... Cheatsheet and https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Systemd
