If ive understood you correctly you dont have the printer physicaly connected to you mageia computer.
And your printing using a lpr print.
If ive got it wrong and you have connected it usb then i would suggest downloading the scanner driver from epsons linux drivers site, in rpm format and installing it, then it should be detected.
If you trying to use its remote scanning capability from mageia, then i think you will be out of luck, unless epson has produced an equiverlent of the remote scanner util that you install in windows.
I dont know this printer, but my father has the hp eqiverlent to it so im making a few assumptions.
I found with his the remote scanner performance was appauling, and connected it via usb, where it was about ten times faster.
But that was the exprience under windows.
