[SOLVED] KDE style them not applying in Mageia 2

Postby aselluza » May 24th, '12, 22:56

I'm trying new Mageia 2 and I have a minor problem. I always change the KDE look to Oxygen style. Some programs seem to be using it, but most of them keep using the default style them (that I don't like at all). My windows don't look very beautiful this way... is this happenig just to me?

What do you mean, plasma theme or QT/KDE theme? Or maybe it's the easiest way if you could post one or two screenshots about this issue?
Just upload them as attachments via the forum software and select to display them inline ...

I'm not very sure how to attach images and I'm answering from mu main notebook now, with Mageia 1, where KDE themes work fine, but I'll try to explain it better and later I'll try to do that screenshots on my netbook with Mageia 2. My system is in Basque, so sometimes it's hard to figure out how to call things in English

I open KDE system settings, go to application style and choose Oxygen (or any other style theme, like IaOra, Cleanlook, Platique or whatever). Then try any application, and that style theme is only applied to some of them, like kmix, mageia menu..., but not to many other like mageia control center, firefox...

If the problem is not clear enough I'll try from my netbook later doing screenshots, if I'm able to attach them to the forum ;)

I hope it can be seen in these two screenshot. In the first one you can see the chosen style theme, Oxygen, and how it should look like. In the second one you can see Mageia Control Center working, and Oxygen theme is not applied to it.
I finally installed Mageia 2 in my main laptop and there Oxygen style works for all my applications :geek:

Oxygen is a KDE plasma theme, and only effective for KDE apps.
In Mageia 2 there is now oxygen-gtk, which mimics KDE plasma oxygen look for GTK applications, as for example the Mageia Control Center and it's tools.

But as you wrote on your laptop now oxygen works for all your applications, isn't the problem solved?

It means that my laptop has no problem with oxygen theme, but it doesn't solve the problem in my netbook (I cheked and I'm using oxygen-gtk). It's strange, because I never had that problem before with any other distro, in Mandriva and Mageia 1 oxygen theme worked always for all kind of apps... and I'd like it working in my netbook too :|

Your netbook was a fresh installation or an upgrade? Please try with a freshly created user there.

It's a fresh installation, but I'll check with a freshhly created user tomorrow and I'll tell you ;) I installed the same way in both computers and I keep the same user configuration in both, so I don't understand the different behaviour...

I had the same problem in Mageia 2. I solved it by installing Kde-gtk package.
After install it can be found in System Settings > Application Appearance > GTK Configuration

But I don't know why it is needed in somme installs, not in others...
