[SOLVED] Spotify,Mendelev desktop, etc...

Postby appletux » May 23rd, '12, 20:38

Hi, i am testing this great distro (Mageia 2)
So far i am pleased with the distro. But my biggest concern is the software availability
I wonder if these apps are available
Spotify
mendelev Desktop
xcalib
appmenu-qt appmenu-gtk

Etc...

If not, i wonder if i can make my own local repo. Is there an easy way to create packages? Thanks

Spotify is currently only available as a preview release for linux, and there are only binaries available but no source code.
In general for package requests have a look at https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_repor ... ge_request

For packaging maybe have a look at https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Category:Packaging

Let me get it straight. The software has to be open source to be packed for mageia? is that a requirement ?
Spotify, for example, has been succesfully ported to Fedora and archlinux unofficially

Well, we are promoting free software, so it should be open source. You may additionally want to take a look at https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Licensing_policy Also in Arch it's only in AUR which is contributed by users, and also there are only unofficial Fedora packages. As Fedora has rather strict policies about packages in their main repositories, you'd never see spotify in Fedora repos officially, due to missing source code.
