mkinitrd failed during bootloader install...

Postby lnxguy » May 9th, '12, 03:50

Howdy,

After attempting to install Mandriva 2011, I gave up and burned a Mageia 1 x86_64 DVD, hoping it would install. Nope.

I did a fresh install and formatted all but my /home and windows partitions. The install went well until the bootloader install. I waited 15 minutes three times for it to create the initrd and gave up...

the only option I see now is to install Mandriva 2010.1 and do an upgrade. This is almost not worth it for me and is consuming waaay too much time.

Any ideas or fixes come to mind? The filesystem is reiserfs and I have an NVidia 74xx chipset.

Thanks!

Can you switch to the tty's via Ctrl+Alt-F1 - F4, can you see some error messages there related to bootloader/initrd?
Also you could try to install with ext4 as filesystems as a test.
