Canon Pixma PM495 scanner/printer

Postby wilcal » Mar 2nd, '12, 01:29

I've just upgraded a friends old Celeron ( 1.7Ghz )
workstation to Mageia 1. Unfortunately someone also
gifted her a Canon Pixma PM495 inkjet scanner/printer.
I tried to get it to install but after some trying
it's a no go. I don't see a lot of support for it
in the Linux community. It is brand new so it has
the WinBlows install disk.

Any hints.

Mageia 1 runs wonderfully well on this platform.

Thanks

It is supported since gutenprint 5.2.7 and by canons own cnijfilter driver.
For the gutenprint part, see the release notes here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-pr ... 5.2/5.2.7/
For the cnijfilter part, here's canons site for it: http://cweb.canon.jp/drv-upd/ij-mfp/bjl ... g5130.html
(google translate helps: http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... g5130.html)
I've worked on importing that into Mageia (and when i was finished, just noticed that gutenprint already supports all those printers  )

I can attach you a package for the cnijfilter driver if you want ...

If you are looking for the MP495 (not PM495), here are the Canon drivers on Australia's site.

That holds the cnijfilter source tarball i referred to above, which you still need to compile properly to get a working driver.
That's why i proposed to supply the packages for that.

Can you tell me when it will be available in an rpm
or the repo's?

Thanks for the help.

The link I posted is to a tarred rpm folder. After extracting the tar file, go into the folder created and run the install.sh script or else go into the packages subdirectory of that folder and install the i386 or x86_64 rpms. Likely the link doktor5000 posted has the same file.

Here is what I have in /home/~/Downloads/cnijfilter-mg8100series-3.40-1-rpm/packages/ directory for my MG8120.
cnijfilter-common-3.40-1.i386.rpm
cnijfilter-common-3.40-1.x86_64.rpm
cnijfilter-mg8100series-3.40-1.i386.rpm
cnijfilter-mg8100series-3.40-1.x86_64.rpm

Yes, the source tarball is there, but so are the rpms that you do not need to compile.

Uhmm, did you read my posts? It will NOT be available via the repos, as the gutenprint version in cauldron already supports those printers, so no need for this package.
I would attach the packages i've built locally here in this thread, if you want.
