[SOLVED] Reformating a HDD

I'm on a HPdc5000 with 2 HDD's
I did a clean install of the KDE version of Magiea1 on the primary
I would like to store my music on the secondary
sdb actually has the files already, but I can't seem to get amarok or clementine to find them
wiping it & starting fresh would probably be the best option
I'm not finding a kde version of gparted
any suggestions for what to do?
grsync seems to be working fine, I used it to transfer [from a usb ex hdd] 20g of pictures no problem
I have a 100g of music, so using the exhdd directly is kind of slow

You can use the MCC (local harddisks -> partitions ... something like that, i have a german system here ...)

Use Mageia Control Centre -> Local Disks. If you select the tab for your secondary disk (sdb), it will show the partitions on that disk. Clicking on a partition will tell you if it is currently mounted - if it isn't, that's probably your problem, and all you need to do is click the "mount point" button and tell Mageia where you want it mounted, then click on the "mount" button.

If it is mounted, check whether you can see any files in that partition (either using your desktop's file manager or from the command line, using 'ls'). If you can, the problem is most likely to be a file permission problem. It's possible that your user ID or group ID changed when you did a clean install. Did you keep your old home directory or let the installer create a new one?

If you do decide to start afresh, you can use MCC to create/delete/resize/reformat partitions. If a partition is mounted, you will need to unmount it first.

The other HDD [sdb] is set up as Ubun10.10
this install is brand new using the entire primary HDD [sda], no dual boot nothing fancy
Dolphin offers to unmount sdb, I assume that means it's mounted
when I go to computer, I can see files, but I can't open, no permission
so I reformat 1st ntfs, then native linux. then ext4
I end up with 1 folder [lost & found] that I can't open, can't create a new folder
grsync pukes out a error
help?

I am sorry I'm breaking into the topic - I usually use a bootable CD with PartedMagic (based on GParted) for any partitioning/formatting/resizing jobs and has never experienced any problems (yet ).
And since it is almost complete bootable system (text editing, internet, memory tests, benchmarking, etc) it is sometimes useful not only for partitioning.

I'm used to using gparted within a regular old distro
as far as I can tell it's gnomecentric
I found http://sourceforge.net/projects/partitionman/ on source forge
I don't understand how the tools work to unpack & run yet

I have experienced a similar problem accessing files on an external hard drive that have been created by a Debian OS. Permission refused.

I changed ownership and permissions using gnome commander. Not sure of a KDE equivalent, but there is also midnight commander. Both are powerful file manipulation tools.

Might be worth investigating before complete reformat.

I have a couple of usb hdd's that work with out a hitch
I'm trying to acclimate to KDE world
I moved some stuff around so there is room on sda for tunes
this is a bit of a franken computer, no working cd
I guess I'll have to learn to compile on kde [ or would that be Kompile?]
