[SOLVED] installation problem

Postby mauro » Feb 17th, '12, 19:52

I'm trying to install mageia 1 on my pc, but the installation stops while the system is looking for available packages. I already used mageia 1 on this computer, using the same intallation media and with the same configuration (windows 7 on sda, mageia on sdb). I can't figure out what happened.
After Ctrl+Alt+F1 I can only imagine the problem is with repositories, but I can't understand more (I'm a newbie! ;) )

Thank you for your help (and sorry for my English)

How long did you leave it before you gave up?

It pauses at that point for quite a long time.

I assume you are installing from the DVD in which case it is not looking for any online repositories unless you had answered 'yes' when it asked if you have any additional installation media.

I waited for half an hour. In my previous installation that passage took a few seconds.

There is a log screen you can switch to to find out what it is doing during installation. I am trying to remember what it is. Maybe F12?

I am installing from the DVD, and I answered "yes", choosing http online repositories (in different attempts I used different repositories).
I'll try to install without those repositories, using only packages on the DVD. I'll let you know the outcome.

For the moment, thank you for your help.

FWIW, i'd never enable online repositories, as it's more efficient to get the basic system up and running as fast as possible,
and then you can do the updating when the system is running, where you can surf the net, post in mageia forums and stuff like that
in parallel to the updates :)

OK, I'll try to install without enabling online repositories (even though it always worked for me... till now). Anyway, I gave one last try with the other installation method (repositories on), and, after pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1, I wrote down the line on which the system halted:

http://mageia.unige.ch/mirror/distrib/1 ... .hdlist.cz

I hope that could help someone to understand...

I installed without on line repositories; then, at the end of the process, the installation program asked me to download updates. I accepted and after a while I got an error message (I didn't understand exactly its meaning). The installation finished and I started my system: the first thing I had to do was to update rpmdrake, so i think the problem was caused by some change in the package manager. Once I updated rpmdrake I was able to download all I needed. :)

So, the workaround seem to be an off line installation.

Thank you to all the people who helped me!

It could be the mirror that was automatically selected was in the process of updating and a required package was not available.
