PCI IDE: via 6410

Postby ryk » Oct 13th, '11, 10:07

Hi,
i have a pci card for 2 IDE channels (actual 4 disks). It is a Via chipset VT6410. Although i see that via modules are loaded, i can't see the disks. In WinXP the card works flawless.
What can i do? (Must be something easy that i can't think of!)

Thanks!

dont have an answer for you, but i have been trying to get mine to work for years with mandriva and now with mageia

have seen this patch -> http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/48514/ in google searches researching the problem
but it doesnt explain HOW to apply the patch and where or even if it works

have also seen this patch -> http://lkml.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0502.0/1870.html but it looks a little
more complicated.

if you find a solution please let me know

I have the same problem on my tech computer at work. The first patch is relatively current and blessed by via. I'll get going on this right away in the morning, because I sure could use thst card working!
I'll keep you posted. If it works, then you get to figure out how to patch your kernel :-)

I tried to apply the patch, but.....no good, i don't have experience and with the first message of failure i didn't know what to do...
The only thing I tried, is to insert the pci bios into motherboard bios. There was no space, so i had to erase some things. The result was that during booting the card was found by bios (and the disks), but Mageia could not boot (not either windows).
Maybe i erased something important, so i will try to erase something else (boot screens and other useless stuff) before i reinstall it!

If you find the solution with the first patch, please advise!

Have a happy new year.
