This may be old news to some of you but I read this today. The Freetype 2.4.12 beta release already has the new cff rasterizer in it.

https://blogs.adobe.com/typblography/20 ... etype.html

I downloaded it here:

http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/freety ... -4-12-beta

I compiled it and it installed in /usr/local/lib. I couldn't get it working because that is the wrong place. It tells how to change the install directory in the readme but I'm just too tired to mess with it and if I screw it up, well...

Anyway to build and install I had to run the autogen.sh then do ./configure and make install. It all went fine for me and installed in the default directory /usr/local/lib. Anyway, this is not meant to be a request for help or instructions but just chit chat about it does compile for me.

I remember the old days fighting with freetype and messing it up. Everything in Mageia 2 works so I've forgotten all that stuff. I hope this makes it's way into Mageia 3 really fast if it works even though I know it won't be released with it as freetype is beta. If you old pros try it out please post how to install it and fire it up. I know it is in /usr/lib and /usr/lib64 but I'm not sure what ties it all together.

Anyway, it looks like this is going to be a very fun year with Linux! Got my hardware beefed up and running better than ever and Mageia 3 coming! Woohoo!

Goodnight all.

Nope, not at all. Feature freeze is long in place, and such a core part won't be upgraded with new features just because it's new and shiny.

That is ok Dok...I am not that familiar with when they update a feature later on down the line. I'll read up on installing it properly when I get time and try it out.

I don't really have any complaints now...looks pretty good to me. If you remember the old days and I'm sure you do, the fonts were a pain.
