He he, something that seemed impossible a couple of years ago.

Heard lot of bad things about Steam previously, but even if true I am willing to forgive everything they did because of what they are doing right now for the future Linux gaming.

Hi.
I found instruction how install Steam on system in older Glibc. Instruction for Mageia 2 (Glibc 2.14).
Code: Select all
http://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/1/846939071448270483/

I must configure sudo and install steam but i can't use
Code: Select all
usermod -a -G wheel <your_username> geany /etc/sudoers
. Unlike i have error
Code: Select all
bash: x: No such file or directory

Why?

I need configure sudo before install steam. After install, I should extract eglibc2.15 without install in steam directory (only static binary).

I try and need use it, but i don't any idea how?

And next i found this repo
Code: Select all
http://software.opensuse.org/package/steam

In repo is pack steam for few opensuse, fedora and mandriva distro. This pack dont requied gbibc2.15 but older. Unfortunately I install this but this downloading update and try install and can't because need glibc 2.15. How fix it?

I have two metods, but two not working for me.

Why do you need Sudo? It's not needed for steam if that's what your thinking.

Steam does NOT need root access.

OK I understand but I need to use a static eglibc 2.15.
In Mageia 2 i have only 2.14, and in this version will not start Steam, but I do not want to install Glibc 2.16 eg Cauldron.
So I found a way to bypass this problem.
Egbibc static libraries.
This page describes how to do this for Mageia 2 and other similar, but it does not work for me.
I tried, but something is not right. Therefore, the SUDO try because I thought that this is the reason.

How can I run Steam on Mageia 2 of Glibc 2.14?

You can't (easily), That's why I am using Mageia 3.
By the time you've upgraded glibc + the numerous packages that's needed it will be running Mageia 3 as near as dammit, only not as stable ;)

Thanks to whomever did the steam rpm for Magiea 3 :D

After Valve changed the licence I presume is why it wasn't in before.

Its now in the tainted repos.

Just thought I'd say, saves a whole lot of dep hunting. ;)

Too be frank its pretty solid now, seem to have nailed most of the bugs. Mind you apart from the odd hiccup, alpha was better than some distro/os's release ;)

It's really great. Some really nice improvements over Mageia 2.

The bugs I've encountered have been mainly in the installation stage i.e. the boot.iso hanging during install, the DVD not installing grub correctly, Grub2 not having the correct kernel mode setting for the ATI driver in the Gnome Live DVD.

I will open bug reports asap but for now, I've spent enough time on Mageia this weekend ;-)
