ARM, PI, LINUX, SUPERCOMPUTE

Here wizards, magicians, sorcerers and everybody can rest a bit and talk about anything they like.

Just remember to respect the rules.

I dont have 6k to spend on a supercomputer let alone a standard machine but nevertheless these are the projects I am looking at doing one day when money starts growing on trees.

I dont really know what the power consumption of these things are but I hear its quite high for this: Obviously
im going to start with one pi and try the mageia port, I expect it to be over 6 or 7 months before I can even scrape together enough money to afford one of these to play with, I would say that the interest here would have grown considerable by then and everywhere by linux peeps.

Oh its something better to look forward to better than buying a new car or wanting some stupid product that has no value.

Another thing I suppose would be to teach myself some pcb design for the next 5 years and continually research it along with some relevant electronics maybe they will not prove helpful but I dont see the point in leaving this out just yet.(just interested in how it could be applied I did a little electronics at school and I can solder really well, thats about it, now I need to learn something I never thought I was capable of at school).

What I have thought is to teach myself linux + programming linux, pcb design on the side, and arm rasberry pi projects as a secondary linux project.

obviously this isnt just for university students there are alot of people out there who are learning about these raspberry-pi ARM computers and have not studied computers at a university cant afford university or they have to work so they cant study etc, I have been sick of not being able to learn that thing that you have to do a massive degree on to be good at. I cant afford a degree not in my country ie I prob never will afford university. Maybe a linux cert later on mostly done via internet.

learning all this stuff may seem the extreme hard road in truth i have no choice and I think its a great opportunity cos I think it might explain another thing about computers I dont know yet, and will focusing all my time and money onto such a thing make me a decent programmer? I surely do hope so because if I can get enough experience accumulated in the many years I will have to study with all dicipline then I may achieve something useful to somebody else. How much has linux made me want to do this? 100% it was all linux, without linux I would never want to learn because linux was always about learning now combine linux and pi and I see a future in something, even If I achieve nothing except learn then thats ok too.

Im just not looking forward to the power consumption bill, maybe theres a way around that too and I also expect new ideas to be coming with this stuff so maybe that wont be a problem in the future

for now I will teach myself linux more because I understand even very little of that,

Does anybody have anything interesting to share with this stuff sorry to sound a little noob, its just the thing I have found about linux was that ever since I deleted windows and stopped using it completely that my learning of linux increased 10fold then when I fixed my mates gaming rig the other night I realised that I didn´t like windows anymore cos it feels boring as like im driving a *real mans car* so the enthusiasts who love MS bleat and I keep wanting to click start button like im ADD and it reminded me how easily I survived without a microsoft product.

What I didnt' realise untill now was how much I have learnt about computing by not using one eh

So I am fairly happy buying my next computer in scratch parts without wasting a dime on windows(otherwise I would be bored playing fancy DX11 games). So if I can start a project like this one day then learning about computers can be exponential in many ways
